Summery: Mudflap loses his twin, torn apart what is mech to do?
Note: Mudflap has a lisp, as in the Revenge of the Fallen Novelized version so I'm keeping that here.
Time was slow moving and sluggish; intakes hitching and sputtering with Energon. Skids struggled to regain feeling of any kind in his limbs; warnings flashing on his HUD and his optics struggling to stay online. Systems shutting down one by one by one, too much damage and so much pain. He felt Energon trickle from the fatal wound in his spark chamber and face plates.
"Skids! Pwease, pwease don't weave...pwease!" Mudflap's broken voice sobbed as his lisp garbled already difficult words to understand even more. Skids did not mind; happy that his brother was the last thing he would see.
"'m sorry Mud-flap," a hacking cough erupted from his damaged intakes; spilling Energon onto his face plates. His last breath left him in a rush as his optics failed and his spark sputtered out; his audios filled with his twin's high and desperate keens and hitching intakes. His brother's spark calling out for his only to find the last vestiges seeping away as it finally returned to the Well of Sparks.
---------------------
"'atthhet!" Madflap yelled; desperately trying to stem the flow of Energon from his brother's spark chamber. Knowing his attempts would be futile; a deep unsated loneliness already consumed his spark. He knew, knew that his twin would never come back. Sobs wracking his heavy frame. His calls answered by the Autobot Medic that came rushing to his side, regardless of the enemy fire that was raining down on them.
"I'm so sorry Madflap..." Was all Ratchet could tell him; confirming his worst fears. Skids was long gone; fear like none the gentle twin had ever felt was clouding his processor. He felt lost and lonely, his spark broken beyond repair. He didn't know when the battle ended and nor could he find a way to care; all that mattered was the pain that was racing through his processors and spark. His audio receptors shut down as everything slowed; Ratchet was yelling frantically and Madflap only stared ahead.
When he onlined his optics bright light blinded him and he struggled to speak; only static and high pitched keens spilled from his vocalizer. Before he could blink his optics Ratchet was standing in front of him; a dreaded glint in those usually harsh optics that Madflap knew there was nothing more left to hope for.
"I'm so sorry, there was nothing I could do." Ratchet whispered briefly; his own pain a clear indication that this tragedy was unavoidable. It stung; Primus it stung and Madflap's wailing sobs never ceasing as his pain filled his entire being. Never registering the gentle but strong arms of the Field Medic as Ratchet desperately tried to calm the more insecure of the two twins who was now so utterly alone and afraid of the world around him.
"'atthet? What wiww happen?" Mudflap asked tentatively, as if he was afraid to speak. Ratchet frowned; something was not right here. The Field Medic had never seen Mudflap act like this; the orange Cybertronian was trembling as he clung to the Medic. Confidence eaten away and leaving behind a meek and frightened Autobot; for the first time in years Ratchet felt his spark break. A sparkling, insecure, frightened and deeply hurt. Was all that was left of the once confident and quiet worrier who showed more compassion than admissibly legal.
"'atthet? Thhan' you." Was the acknowledgement; voice sounding both pained and empty at the same time. Bright optics now dull and filled with a pain now mech could hope to understand. It was filled with gratitude and love; Ratchet was surprised when he was engulfed in a fierce embrace and words spoken so softly Ratchet wasn't sure he heard them right.
"I 'ovee you; pwease don't hathe me." Was Mudflap's quiet whisper before he left Med Bay and made his way back to his and Skids empty room. Heavy footsteps followed in his wake; leaving their last impression on the NEST headquarters.
Back in the Med Bay Ratchet set out to work on repairing what he could of the electric green Autobot. His processor kept returning to the words Mudflap had spoken; something was off about them and strangely disconcerting. Too late did he realize it was a whispered good buy...
"Ratchet? Do you know what's wrong with Mudflap? He said the strangest things." Ironhide mumbled as he entered the now empty Med Bay; only Ratchet and the remains of the casualties were left.
"We have to find him NOW!" Ratchet yelled as he grabbed the Weapons Specialist's servo and dragged him with as he sped through the corridors specially created for the Autobots to move through easily.
-------------------
Mudflap entered his room, stepping carefully as he ran his servos over Skids' things needing to remind himself that his twin really existed. The whole in his spark leaving him feeling empty and so utterly alone. Gracing through the room Mudflap clambered onto the berth they shared; allowing his Energon tears to roll and to steel his resolve for what he was about to do.
"'ovee you Skids." He whispered to himself as he stared at the intimidating Energon dagger resting in his servo; not only a Prime had the right to one of these and it was one of Mudflap's specialties. Smiling lightly to himself as deep successive cuts severed two main Energon lines cleanly; an injury no Medic could repair or heal.
"'m coming bwottheth." His processor sent out a ping; not expecting an answer only calm resignation to fate. Ignoring the stabs of pain and violently flashing warnings Mudflap reached for the Energon cube plush he and his twin had shared since being sparked. He clutched the toy tightly to his spark chamber; static keens spilled from his overused vocalizer as he sobbed quietly and awaited the approach the abyss that was coming. It was already claiming his rapidly fading spark.
A memory long forgotten flitted across his optic band; allowing for his tears to slow as his systems faltered.
"Don't you dare touch my brother!" Skids yelled as a sobbing Mudflap was being boxed into a corner by the Decepticons that had just murdered their entire family before the optics of the two youngling twins. Their caretaker's Energon sword already in the tiny mech's hand as he charged the towering Decepticon. Mere luck on their side as the Autobots stormed in and took care of the innocent; Mudflap and Skids picked up by a green and red Medic. The Medic that would become their everything...
"Skids, 'm afwead." Little Mudflap whimpered as Ratchet approached them for their check up. The shy twin trembling on his stabilizing servos as he desperately clung to Skids' servo.
"It's alright, I'm here. I won't ever leave you; not even if I'm dead. I promise." Skids said as he placed a loving kiss on Mudflap's helm. S sealing their promise for eternity. Mudflap made his own promise; he would never be a burden to Skids and if Skids was to die before him then Mudflap would follow his twin to the Well of Sparks...
Ghostly, familiar arms wrapped around him. Mudflap leaned into the touch; needing the comfort they provided. A soft touch of mouth plates against his helm startled him slightly. Blue optics dimming further as the Energon around him grew larger and larger and soon was dripping onto the floor and running over the edge of the berth. The blue liquid leaving a trace behind as time stopped completely; Skids presence close to him and his spark sung its happiness as reached out to touch the presence so close to him. A sigh spilled through his intakes as his twin's familiar voice drifted through hid audial receiver.
"Silly, Brother. Come let's go; I promised never to leave you remember." And Mudflap nodded; his entire frame shuddering as the last of his warning shut down and his protoform went lax. No life left except the last vestiges of his fading spark. Happiness, content and the unexplained deep sorrow never fading as he slipped; drifting and feeling weightless as he touched the spark hovering next to him. It was so familiar and he sighed. It felt so right...
--------------------------------------------
Ratchet was rushing through the corridors; Ironhide not even a few steps behind him. The medic mumbling to himself and pushing anyone out the way that stood in his way. Ironhide knew something was wrong but he didn't know what and honestly it frightened him. He had never seen Ratchet this way...
The door hissed open as Ratchet punched in the override codes and stepped inside Skids and Mudflap's shared room. He stopped in his tracks; his breath hitching at what he saw. A bright light filled the room and Ratchet's optics was drawn to the spectacle in front of him. Two sparks circling one another in a loving dance as the twisted, turned and mingled together before merging and as suddenly as the dance begun it was over and the two sparks disappeared; each returning unto the Well of Sparks as a pair, twins and inseparable.
"Oh Primus, please tell me I'm not too late. How I could have let this happen to my two own?" he mumbled to himself as he approached the unmoving and unresponsive form of Mudflap. He cried when he saw the open chest plate and no spark; an Energon pool so big it was impossible for Mudflap to still be alive.
The whisper in a scream, Ratchet felt himself go numb. Not registering as Ironhide's strong arms encircled him and caught him before Ratchet collapsed from grief. The twins that he had raised as his own; knew every fear, comfort and difference and similarities were gone and they were never coming back. For once Ratchet allowed himself to loose control of his emotions; always the Medic that never showed emotions but every 'bot he lost left another hole in his spark. But this; this hole would never fade and the pain would never stop.
Ratchet's howls and screams of grief could be heard through the entire compound; startling all Cybertronians from their recharge as they came rushing. Optimus the first one to pry Ratchet from Ironhide's arms and pulled his spark bonded close to his spark chamber before trying to calm his beloved. His own grief flowing through the bond between them.
Two lives so important, so delicate and vulnerable were gone and it hurt, hurt so much and the grief it left behind was easily comparable to the loss of Cybertron...
Note: Mudflap has a lisp, as in the Revenge of the Fallen Novelized version so I'm keeping that here.
